The University of Windsor Lancers cross country teams took to Bayfront Park in Hamilton, Ont. on Friday, October 10 to race in the McMaster Invitational. The women's team came away with a second-place finish, while the men placed fifth.
WOMEN'S RESULTS
The women's second-place finish was just one point out of first, falling just shy of the defending national champion Western Mustangs. The Lancers total score of 56 made them just one of three teams to break 100 on the day.
Joelle Olla led the Lancers with a time of 28:09.9, good for fourth place overall.
Samara Quanz followed close behind, as her 28:10.8 time placed her fifth.
Natalie Fortier crossed the finish line 30 seconds later in tenth place, and
Sian Kniaziew placed 13
th, completing the 8k race in 28:44.9. The Lancer women that placed in the top 50 times were as follows:
Ainsley Rocheleau (29:01.4),
Natalie Adam (29:43.8),
Nicole Seagris (30:15.8), and
Maren Kasunich (30:38.2).
In the 6k open division, the Lancers were represented by
Isabella Goveia and
Layla Masse. Goveia placed fifth with a time of 22:59.7.
MEN'S RESULTS
Men's cross country earned a fifth-place finish, scoring exactly 100 points. They were the fourth-best OUA team, as the Sherbrooke Vert et Or placed second.
Jacob Fitzpatrick paced the Lancers with a sixth-place time of 24:05.6.
Noah Costa crossed just six seconds later for a ninth-place finish. Abdullahi Abdullahi placed 23
rd in the 8k race with a time of 24:43.7, and James Wheeler's time of 24:53.3 placed him 28
th. The remaining Lancer men in the top 55 times were
Andreas Pardalis (25:00.9),
Adam Kleinsmith (25:07.4), and
Kade Campbell (25:33.1).
Noel Huinink,
Quinten Marsh-Lansard, Sebastian Glaser, and
Malachi Kenny raced in the open 6k, with Huinink leading the Lancer pack with a time oof 19:28.8 and a fifth-place finish.

The Lancers now turn their sights to the OUA Championships in Kingston, Ont. at the CFP Kingston Fort Henry Cross Country Trail next weekend. The provincial championships will be held on Saturday, October 25.
