Lidster ties OUA record in blowout win

Box Score

The Windsor Lancers welcomed the Waterloo Warriors to Alumni Stadium on the evening of Saturday, September 27 in a matchup of two teams heading in opposite directions midway through the OUA season. Riding high off a convincing 34-14 road win over the Toronto Varsity Blues, the Lancers extended their win streak to three games, improving their record to 3-2 on the season with a commanding 35-0 shutout over the visiting Warriors.

STATS
Brady Lidster delivered a historic performance, converting seven field goals, tying the OUA single-game record for most field goals made. He is the fourth OUA kicker ever to achieve the mark, and the first since 2017. Weagbe Mombo led the ground game with 55 rushing yards and one touchdown, powering the Lancers second-half offensive surge.

HOW IT HAPPENED
From the opening kickoff, Windsor looked to be the sharper side. Quarterback Nick Dimovski wasted no time getting the offence moving, connecting with multiple targets including a deep 39-yard strike to Mombo and completions to Colby Ginn, Tyriq Quason, and Matteo Trifon. Despite stalling in the red zone, the Lancers found early success through the boot of Brady Lidster, who opened the scoring and would go on to have a perfect night.

Lidster's reliability kept Windsor ticking with field goals on five consecutive drives, putting the Lancers up 15-0 at halftime while the Warriors failed to generate any rhythm on offence. Waterloo's best chance came late in the second quarter, but their field goal attempt sailed wide right and was brought out of the end zone by Zach Talbot, keeping the Warriors scoreless heading into the break.

The third quarter saw Windsor finally breakthrough for a touchdown. Following a 29-yard interception return by Dylan Simpson that set up a short field, Dimovski handed off to Mombo, who sliced through the Warriors' defence for a 25-yard touchdown run, extending the lead to 22-0. On the next offensive series, a powerful run by Tyson Noel Charles with his first OUA TD, capping off another efficient drive. Lidster added the extra point to make it 29-0 heading into the fourth quarter.

Defensively, the Lancers were relentless. A pair of interceptions and consistent pressure from the defensive front—highlighted by standout defensive plays from Amad Taylor, Braxton Johnston, and Liam Hoskins, who all collected sacks on the evening.

Lidster continued his flawless performance in the fourth quarter, hitting his sixth and seventh field goals of the night, the last coming after a 34-yard completion to first year receiver Brendan Talbot that brought Windsor deep into the red zone once again. The final scoreline of 35-0 reflected Windsor's complete control in all phases of the game.

With the win, the Lancers improve to 3-2 on the season while Waterloo falls to 1-5. The Lancers gain crucial momentum heading into a highly anticipated rivalry matchup next weekend, as they host the Western Mustangs at Alumni Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for Saturday, October 4 at 1 p.m. Tickets can be purchased at golancers.ca/tickets and the action can be streamed live on oua.tv.
