STUDENT-ATHLETES TO WATCH

Alysha Alkerton & Samara Quanz, Windsor Lancers | Windsor's dynamic duo has been impressive this season, finishing first and second, respectively, in every race they've competed in. Alkerton, a transfer from Queen's, has won both of her races this fall after sitting out the 2025 season, while Quanz looks to build on her individual bronze medal and team silver from last year's OUA championships.

Andreas Pardalis, Windsor Lancers | Pardalis has led the way for the Lancers this season, crossing the finish line as Windsor's top runner in every race. His performances include a 12th-place finish at Western, 21st among 175 competitors at Notre Dame, and 16th at the McMaster Open.

Bianca Grossi, Toronto Varsity Blues | Grossi has made her mark in her first season with the Varsity Blues, capturing the top spot at the Don Mills Open. She has also turned in a pair of top-10 finishes, placing fourth at the McMaster Open and ninth at Western.

Kirk Hallman, Western Mustangs | Hallman has made an immediate impact in his rookie season, finishing as the top Canadian university runner in the Gold Race at the Joe Piane Notre Dame Invitational. A contender for OUA Rookie of the Year honours, Hallman also enjoyed a memorable summer as part of the team that set a national U20 record in the 4x800-metre relay.

Jack Lehto, Guelph Gryphons | A two-time U SPORTS All-Canadian and OUA bronze medallist, Lehto has been a consistent contender on the provincial and national stage, finishing third at the last two OUA championships and sixth at last year's U SPORTS championships. After representing Canada at the 2026 FISU World University Cross Country Championships, the Gryphon has already hit the ground running this season with a victory at the Vigars & Salter Western Invitational.

Alexandra McDougall, Guelph Gryphons | McDougall returns as the reigning OUA individual champion and Runner of the Year, looking to make it back-to-back titles after a standout 2025 campaign that included three race victories and a U SPORTS bronze medal. The Gryphon also gained international experience over the winter, representing Canada at the 2026 FISU World University Cross Country Championships in Italy.

Ana Morariu, McMaster Marauders | Morariu has shown steady progress through her first two races of the season, improving from a 12th-place finish at the Vigars & Salter Western Invitational to sixth place on her home course at the McMaster Open.

Angus Skinner, Queen's Gaels | Skinner returns as a key member of the defending OUA champion Gaels, bringing experience and leadership as team captain. An OUA all-star after finishing 13th at last year's provincial championships, Skinner also earned U SPORTS All-Canadian honours with an 11th-place finish at the 2025 national championships.

Elizabeth Vroom, Queen's Gaels | Vroom returns as a leader for the Gaels this season, taking on the role of team captain after a strong showing at last year's OUA championships. The team's top returning women's finisher, Vroom placed sixth at the 2025 provincial championships to earn OUA all-star honours.

Will Weist, McMaster Marauders | Weist has put together a strong start to the season, earning a pair of top-five finishes in his two races. After placing fifth at the Vigars & Salter Western Invitational, the Marauder followed up with a runner-up finish on his home course at the McMaster Open.

Alyssa Zinn, Laurier Golden Hawks | After battling injuries throughout the summer, Zinn is finding her stride as the season progresses. With some of her strongest training sessions behind her, the Golden Hawk is looking to carry that momentum into the OUA championships.

WHAT TO WATCH FOR

After coming so close with a silver-medal finish last season, can the Windsor women make history and capture their first OUA cross-country championship in front of a home crowd?
Can the Windsor men improve on last year's fourth-place finish and race their way onto the podium on their home course?
Can the Queen's women defend their OUA title against a Windsor squad that finished runner-up last year and will be racing on home turf?
Can the Queen's men capture their third consecutive OUA championship, or will the nationally No. 1-ranked McMaster Marauders put an end to their title streak?
With McMaster set to host the U SPORTS championships in November, can the Marauders' men's and women's teams build momentum with strong performances on the provincial stage?

WHAT THEY'RE SAYING

"We are excited to host the OUA championships this year and vie for a title on our home course. Our women have been strong all season long and are looking to bring home another medal this year. On the men's side, we have a young team that is coming into its own and has a strong chance of bringing home some hardware." – Jordan Collison, Head Coach, Windsor Lancers

"I am looking forward to seeing our teams, which include two men's and two women's rookies, compete for podium finishes." – Paula Schnurr, Head Coach, McMaster Marauders

"Watch for the men to put themselves in the chase pack and move through the field to challenge themselves against the best in the OUA. We feel this team can not only compete with the best in the conference but are among the best in the country. They feel a bit disrespected in terms of the rankings, so look forward to proving they are for real in Windsor." – Guy Schultz, Head Coach, Western Mustangs

"The women are a tight bunch, working together and moving as a purple wave. If they can put themselves in a good position in the first half of the race, I'm confident we can close strong on the back half of the race and take some teams by surprise." – Guy Schultz, Head Coach, Western Mustangs
