University of Windsor Lancers track and field thrower
AJ Stanat has been named an OUA Athlete of the Week for his performance at the OUA Championships on Feb. 20-21 in which he won gold with an OUA record-setting throw in shot put and bronze in weight throw.
On Friday, Feb. 20, Stanat started the championships off with a 17.13m toss in weight throw to place third and earn a bronze medal.
The fifth-year thrower started Saturday off with one of the highlights of the meet, with a 19.06m throw in shot put to claim the gold medal and smash the previous provincial record of 18.59m. His own personal best, previously set this season, was 18.44m.
These two medals and the new OUA record helped the Lancer men earn a fourth-place team finish at the meet. Stanat was also named the Hec Phillips Trophy recipient as the male athlete of the meet.
Stanat will compete at the U SPORTS Track & Field Championships on March. 5-7 in Winnipeg, Man. in hopes for national medals.
