University of Windsor Lancers men's hockey player
Colton Smith has been named an OUA Athlete of the Week for his play during the week of Jan. 26-Feb. 1.
Smith scored five goals in two games this week to propel the Lancers to two big divisional wins. On Wednesday (Jan. 28) he scored his first career OUA hat trick in a thrilling 8-7 overtime win at Western and followed it up with two more goals on Friday's (Jan. 30) 6-1 win versus Guelph.
The first-year forward now has 15 goals on the season, tying him for the most amongst rookies. He is tied for second in overall league scoring, trailing only teammate
Keegan McMullen. The Windsor native has 23 points in 22 games and six points in his last three games.
Smith's goal-scoring prowess has helped the Lancers stay in the fight for first place in the OUA West, as they sit just two points out of the top spot with a game at hand.
The Lancers are back in action tomorrow (Wednesday, Jan. 4) night against Laurier at the Capri Pizzeria Recreation Complex as they make up their game that was postponed on Saturday. The Lancers and Golden Hawks are tied for third in the OUA West and the winner of the game will move into a tie with Lakehead for first place. Puck drop is scheduled for 7 p.m. and tickets are available online at
