The Lancer Men's Hockey team lost a pair of games to the Brock Badgers and Waterloo Warriors over the weekend at Windsor Arena.

On Friday night, the Lancers opened up the 2009-10 regular season with a tough 2-1 loss at the hands of the Brock Badgers.

Windsor had plenty of scoring opportunities in the first period but Brock goaltender Mark Yetman kept the his team in the game.

Joe Tolles put the Badgers up 1-0 late in the opening period on a pass from Dan Dooley to give Brock the lead.

Despite some penalty trouble early in the second period, Brock managed to increase their lead to 2-0 with a goal by Stephen Pattison five minutes into the frame.

Windsor
continued to pepper Yetman with shots throughout the period but were unable to get one past him.The Lancers were down 2-0 heading into the final frame.

The third period was a quick, fast paced period that saw five on five hockey for the full twenty minutes with both teams having a number of quality scoring chances.

The Lancers
pulled goaltender Jim Watt with a minute remaining in favour of the extra attacker. The plan worked as Danny Anger finally snuck one past Yetman with seven seconds remaining to cut the lead to 2-1.

The Lancers kept the extra attacker on the ice for the final face-off but were unable to capitalize on the opportunity, falling 2-1.

Windsor outshot Brock 34-28 and played the entire game without a penalty.

Against Waterloo on Saturday, the Lancers capitalized on their first power play opportunity of the game as Mark Thorburn registered his first goal of the season to put Windsor up 1-0.

Waterloo would then tie the game on a short handed goal by Chris Ray with just ten seconds remaining in the first period.

The Warriors would continue to attack as they jumped ahead 3-1 in the second period with goals from Cory Fraser and Chris Ray who scored his second of the game.

Lancer rookie Ryan Federman then scored his first CIS goal on another power play to bring the score to within one, however twenty seconds later Waterloo's Mark Hartman scored to increase the Warriors lead to 4-2 heading into second intermission.

To start the third period, Waterloo scored just two minutes into the final frame on a goal by Shane Hart to make the score 5-2.

Windsor would continue to battle as they scored their third power play goal of the game just one minute later with Matt McCready's first goal of the season.

The momentum carried over into the next play as just ten seconds later Mark Thorburn scored his second of the game to make the score 5-4.

The Lancers continued to press the Warriors for the remainder of the period but were unable to even the score as Waterloo earned the 5-4 victory.
