The Lancer men's basketball team will close out the 2010-11 pre-season this Saturday night when they host the UQAM Citadins at 7:00pm at the St. Denis Centre.
Saturday night marks the first time in ten years that Windsor will host a non-conference CIS opponent at home.
This is the second meeting between the two teams this year, as Windsor faced the Citadins this past March at the CIS Championships in Ottawa. The Lancers narrowly defeated UQAM in the consolation semi-final, 79-74.
Led by last season's QSSF Coach of the Year Olga Hrycak, the Citadins followed a similar path to the Lancers to start the 2010-11 season, as they also hosted the NCAA D1 University of Maine.
Having added some size to their returning veteran core, the Citadins will once again prove to be a tough opponent that challenges everything on the glass. With a lineup comprised of interchangeable parts, this year's squad will again cause matchup problems for their opponents.
After a competitive pre-season, Windsor heads into the UQAM game after a full week of practice. The team is gradually getting back to full health and head coach
Chris Oliver is starting to see some better play in this year's team.
"Our team is now seeing the benefits of some quality practices as we are playing much more effectively on both ends of the floor,” said Oliver. “From what I've seen in our games and on film, every game will be a battle this season and our guys will have to be ready to compete.”
“We look forward to hosting UQAM as we know we'll get a very competitive test prior to heading into our OUA opener against York."
Tickets for the game are $8 for adults and 45 for youth and seniors. Doors open at 6:00pm with tip-off set for 7:00pm.
