Lancers set to battle Thunderwolves in OUA West Final on Saturday night

Head Coach Chris Oliver and the Lancers are set to battle the Thunderwolves in the OUA West Final on Saturday night.
The Windsor Lancers Men's Basketball team will host the OUA West Final on Saturday night when they battle the Lakehead Thunderwolves at the St. Denis Centre.

After knocking off the Golden Hawks in the OUA West Semi-Finals last weekend, the Lancers will now host the Thunderwolves in the OUA West Final on Saturday night at 7pm.

The game will be carried live on television locally on TV Cogeco. For fans outside of the region, the OUA West Final match-up will also be carried live on the internet via webcast at: http://www.ssncanada.ca/.

The Lancers are coming off a solid regular season that saw them finish at 17-5 and capture the OUA West Division regular season title.

Coach Oliver's squad is currently ranked #7 in Canada and they will be looking to make their second trip to the CIS National Championship Tournament in the past four years.

The Thunderwolves come into Saturday night's OUA West Final after defeating the Waterloo Warriors 64-59 in the OUA West Semi-Finals last Saturday night. Lakehead got 20 points from Ryan Thomson in the victory.

Lakehead finished conference play with a 17-5 record but finished second overall behind the Lancers as a result of their head-to-head series point differential.

In their regular season series, the Lancers and Thunderwolves split the two games in Windsor in late January. Lakehead won the first game 89-87 in overtime before Windsor rebounded with a convincing 87-65 victory the following night.

Windsor has been led all season long by a trio of standout veterans that includes Isaac Kuon, Nigel Johnson-Tyghter and Andre Smyth. Kuon averaged 18.1 points per game in conference play and was named an OUA First Team All-Star in the process.

Nigel Johnson-Tyghter added 12.9 ppg and 6.4 rpg and was named an OUA Second Team All-Star while Andre Smyth chipped in with 10.1 ppg and 7.3 rpg.

The Lancers have also got strong guard play from rookie point guard Josh Collins who finished third in the province in assists with 5.2 apg and was named to the OUA All-Rookie team. Fellow rookie shooting guard Enrico Diloreto has also been impressive as he averaged 9.2 points per game.

Be sure to catch the OUA West Men's Basketball Championship this Saturday night. The Lancers will tip-off against the Thunderwolves at 7pm at the St. Denis Centre.
