Meaghan Pototschnik of the Lancer Golf program capped off a terrific 2011 campaign as she captured the OUA Women's Golf individual championship on Tuesday afternoon in Kingston.
Sitting five shots off the lead heading into the final round, Pototschik fired a blistering 77 on Wednesday to win the individual provincial title by two shots.
Her two-day total of 159 put her two shots lower than round one leader from the Guelph Gryphons, Christine Fraser. This is the first career OUA title for the Stratford native and Nursing major at the University of Windsor.
Rounding out the top three and tied for second place were Fraser and Waterloo Warrior, Jane Tang of Toronto at 17-over. The Varsity Blues Laura Upenieks of Toronto and Warriors Mandy Wong of Calgary, Alta. round out the first-team all-stars.
In the women's team competition, the Waterloo Warriors captured the overall team title with a total combined score of 486. Finishing in second place was the Western Mustangs team, who were 18 strokes behind the Warriors at 504, while the Guelph Gryphons faired one stroke more in third place, scoring 505.
On the men's side, the Waterloo Warriors also claimed the men's team title with a combined team score of 594. They were followed by the host Queen's Gaels at 600 and the Western Mustangs at 601.
The Lancer Men, who were competing with a young squad at the OUA championships, finished in 11
th place overall in the team competition.
On the individual circuit, Waterloo Warrior Garrett Rank of Elmira, Ont. topped all golfers finishing two-over for the tournament taking home the gold medal.
Veteran Mike Ayotte was the low Lancer as he finished tied for 17th individually at 12-over par.
Jeff Dent finished tied for 38th at 19-over par while
Scott Reed finished tied for 43rd at 21-over par.
Guelph's Chris Hemmerich who finished four-over took home the individual silver medal while the Gaels' Russell Bowie who shot six-over brought home bronze thanks to his 73 second round score.
Finishing out the men's first team all-stars were Western's Charles Fitzsimmons who shot a six-over and Jordan Oudyk who finished eight-over.
