Box Score The Lancer women's hockey team split a pair of road games over the weekend as they dominated the Ryerson Rams before falling to the Toronto Varsity Blues on Sunday.
Alyssa Baldin scored two goals, and the Windsor Lancers recorded four power-play markers to soar over the Ryerson Rams 6-2 on Saturday afternoon at George Bell Arena.
Baldin opened the scoring in the first for Windsor on an early power-play opportunity to give the Lancers a 1-0 lead.
The Rams appeared to tie the contest on a goal mouth scramble after an initial shot by Kyla Thurston, but it was unclear whether the puck crossed the line before the whistle was blown. However, after a deliberation amongst the officials, the referee pointed to centre-ice, indicating a Rams marker by Melissa Wronzberg.
Windsor that would re-take the lead with under a minute to go in the first. After the Rams defense got caught on a change,
Jenny MacKnight was sent in alone on Emma Crawley after a cross-ice pass from
Kayla Dodson. MacKnight pulled the puck around Crawley's left pad and slid it into the net with just 44 seconds left in the period.
The Lancers got their third goal on a one-timer by
Krysten Bortolotti off a short pass by MacKnight that found the bottom left corner with just under 10 minutes to go in the second.
Emily Rose Galliani Pecchia nearly brought the Rams within one near the end of the frame on an odd man rush, but was stymied on a pad save by Lancer goaltender
Julia Ouroumis. The teams went into the second intermission with Windsor holding a 3-1 lead.
In the third, the Lancers made good on their second man-advantage of the third on a rebound goal by
Courtney Spoors to go up 4-1.
The Rams cut the advantage to two when McCusker tallied her third of the season, going end-to-end with a great individual effort and sliding the puck through the five-hole of Ouroumis.
The Lancers got their third special teams' marker as Baldin notched her second of the contest at 15:15 of the final stanza, and tallied their fourth with under a minute to play.
Bree Polci closed out the scoring for Windsor with her own power play goal with less than a minute remaining in regulation.
On Sunday against Toronto,
Courtney Spoors opened the scoring 6:47 into the game, only to be answered by Toronto's Callie Bazak less than two minutes later.
Alyssa Baldin would add a short-handed tally with just over three minutes remaining to hold a 2-1 lead after the first period.
Blues' Amanda Fawns evened the score on a Blues powerplay with 4:31 to go in the second period.
Deadlocked at two heading into the third period, the Blues scored early in the period. With a delay penalty coming to Windsor, Brenley Jorgensen won the puck battle along the boards outside the Windsor blue line to create a 2-on-1 advantage. She then slid the puck over to Amanda Ricker who's backhand beat Windsor goalie
Julia Ouroumis for the eventual game-winner.
With seven remaining in the period, Windsor attempted to clear the puck out of the Lancer zone, but accidentally fed the puck to Jorgensen who put the puck into the net to secure the win.
Windsor will return home next weekend for a pair of games as they host the York Lions on Saturday and the Western Mustangs on Sunday. Both games are set to go at 4:10pm at South Windsor Arena.
