Lancers roll over Rams to close out first half of season

Box Score In a high scoring affair that saw eight goals scored in the second period, the Lancer women's hockey team rolled over the Ryerson Rams 9-4 on Sunday afternoon at South Windsor Arena.
 
With the win, the Lancers head into the Christmas break tied for third place in the OUA with the Queen's Gaels and a record of 8-5-2.
 
The Rams opened the scoring at 1:38 of the first period to take their only lead of the game.
 
Jane Gaffney scored her first goal of the year at 2:53 to tie the game, and kick start the Lancer offense. Courtney Spoors and Adalena Tridico would each add markers of their own over the next twelve minutes to give Windsor a 3-1 lead heading into the middle frame.
 
After Chloe Richardson tallied made the score 4-2 Windsor, Kyla Thurston notched two straight to even the game at 4-4.
 
However, Windsor would explode for four more goals in the second and take an 8-4 lead into the third period. Goal scorers in the second period included Jenny MacKnight, Kiely Barnett with her first of the year, Candace Kourounis, and Candace Rapchak.
 
Caitlin Connell would add one more goal in the third period to finalize the scoring.
 
The Lancers outshot the Rams 61-17. Windsor went 1-for-4 on the power-play, while Ryerson was 1-for-7.
 
Kayla Dodson finished with a game high three points. In net Julia Ouroumis and Karlyle Robinson shared the goaltending duties with Ouroumis making 6 saves, and Robinson making 7.
 
The Lancers return to the ice on January 6th when they travel to Waterloo to face the Laurier Golden Hawks at 7:30pm.
