The Lancer Men's Hockey team saw their 2010-11 season come to an end with a 4-2 loss to the No. 6 Western Mustangs on Friday night at Windsor Arena.

With the loss, the Lancers dropped the best of three quarter-final series to the Mustangs in two straight games and were eliminated from the playoffs. Western won game one on Thursday night by a score of 4-1.

On Friday night, the Blue and Gold struggled to find their footing in the first period as they gave up three goals and trailed 3-0 after the opening twenty minutes.

Head Coach Kevin Hamlin's intermission talk seemed to have an effect early in the second as the Lancers quickly responded with a goal of their own.

While killing a penalty early in the period, rookie Tom Craig scored his first goal of the post season to cut the lead to 3-1. Craig accepted a nice pass from Brett Vandehogen and put the puck behind Western's Josh Unice to bring Windsor to within two.

Heading into the third down 3-1, Windsor began to really force the action as the Mustangs were caught on their heels for much of the final period.

The Lancers outshot the Mustangs 14-5 and had a number of excellent chances that weren't rewarded through the frame.

After a Windsor time-out with less than two minutes remaining, the home team pulled goaltender Jim Watt in favour of the extra man.The strategy paid off as captain Kyle Lang scored his first of the playoffs with less than a minute remaining to bring the Lancers to within one.

However, that would be as close as the Lancers would get as Western was able to add an empty netter in the final seconds to secure the 4-2 victory.
