Box Score The No. 9 ranked Windsor Lancers Men's Basketball team ended their regular season with their fifth straight victory as they defeated the Guelph Gryphons 92-85 on Saturday afternoon in Guelph.
Win the win, the Lancers finish in second place in the OUA West division with a 16-6 record and earn a bye to the OUA semi-finals next Saturday night at the St. Denis Centre.
Isaac Kuon led all scorers with 23 points, while
Josh Collins contributed 21 points on impressive 60% shooting.
Lien Phillip added 12 points and 5 rebounds.
In addition to their strong game, the trio also led the OUA in three impressive statiscal categories as well.
Kuon, a 5th year senior from Mississauga, led the OUA in scoring as he averaged 21.7 points per game. That scoring average also ranked him 4th in Canada, as well as finishing 3rd in the OUA in 3-point field goal percentage at 45.7%.
Phillip, a second year forward from Toronto, led the OUA in rebounding and finished 2nd in the nation, as he averaged an impressive 10.6 rebounds per game. He also averaged 11.8 points per game in his sophomore year.
Collings, a second year point guard from Thornhill, led the OUA in 3-point field goal percentage, as he average an excellent 47.9% from long range. He also averaged 9.7 points and 5.4 assists per game this year.
On Saturday, the Gryphons stormed out to an early 10-0 lead, but the Lancers were able to chip away to trail 23-22 after the first.
The second was equally close, with Guelph using an 8-1 run to take an 11 point lead halfway through the quarter. Again, Windsor chipped away, cutting the deficit to five heading into halftime.
The third quarter was all Windsor as they did most of their damage inside and at the charity stripe. With the Gryphons utilizing a guard heavy lineup, the Lancers were able to get to the line and get a number of easy looks inside. The Lancers outscored the Gryphon's 27-18 in the quarter to take a 71-67 lead.
Windsor kept the pressure on in the fourth, extending their lead to as many as 10 points before the Gryphons answered with back to narrow the margin to 87-83 with four minutes remaining.
The Lancers were able to keep the Gryphons at bay and secure the 92-65 win.
The Lancers will now have a bye through the OUA quarter-finals and will await Wednesday's results to learn their semi-final opponent. The OUA semi-finals will take place next Saturday, February 26th at 7:00pm at the St. Denis Centre.
