Box Score The Lancer Men's Basketball team advanced to the OUA West semi-finals after an 88-80 win over the Brock Badgers in the division quarter-finals on Wednesday night at the St. Denis Centre.
The Lancers will now head to Hamilton on Saturday to take on the McMaster Marauders at 2pm in the OUA west division semi-finals.
On Wednesday night, both teams came out hitting their shots early on a spirited opening quarter. Brock nailed five three-point shots while Lancer guard Enrico Di Loreto responded with 15 points of his own to make the score 27-27.
Holding a narrow 34-32 lead early in the second quarter, the Lancers went on a 19-7 run, keyed by five-straight three-point shots, and led 53-44 at halftime. The Lancers shot 8-for-12 (66.7%) from the three-point arc, and 22-for-37 (59.5%) overall, in the first 20 minutes.
In the third quarter the Lancers extended their lead to 63-51, before the Badgers fought back with a 16-3 run to close out the quarter and lead 67-66 heading into the final frame.
The Lancers regained the lead with a 7-2 run early in the fourth to go ahead 73-69 and stretched their lead to 79-74 with two minutes left.
The Badgers missed their next shot and Di Loreto drove the length of the court and made a lay up to give the Lancers a seven-point advantage. Brock guard Didi Mukendi knocked down a three-point shot to cut the lead to four points in the final minute, but the Lancers made their free throws to close out the win.
For the Lancers, Di Loreto finished with a game-high 32 points.
Josh Collins registered 20 points and
Lien Phillip chipped in with a double-double adding 17 points and 14 rebounds.
For the Badgers, Mukendi recorded 18 points and seven rebounds, while Andrew Kraus contributed with 16 points and seven rebounds.
Windsor shot 33-for-67 (49.3%) from the floor and 11-for-20 (55%) from the three-point arc with 11-for-18 (61.1%) from the charity stripe. Brock shot 43.5% (30-for-69) from the field including 34.4% (11-for-32) from beyond the arc and 64.3% (9-for-14) from the free throw line.
