Lancers shutout No. 1 Laurier in game one of OUA semi-finals

Julia Ouroumis made 43 saves to shutout the Golden Hawks in game one of the OUA semi-finals
Box Score The Lancer Women's Hockey team defeated the No. 1 ranked Laurier Golden Hawks 1-0 in game one of their OUA semi-final series on Wednesday night in Waterloo at the Waterloo Memorial Recreation Complex.

Windsor goaltender Julia Ouroumis was the star in this game for the Lancers as she continued her strong play from the quarter-finals, making 43 saves for the shutout victory.

On Wednesday night, Laurier controlled the play for much early on in the first ten minutes of the game, recording 11 shots on goal before the Lancers got a puck on the Hawks netminder Erika Thunder.

Late in the first period, Windsor went on a 5-on-3 advantage and capitalized as a shot from the point by Kayla Dodson found its way through a maze of legs and past the Laurier netminder to give the Lancers a 1-0 lead after the opening frame.

The Hawks applied more pressure in the second period but Windsor did a good job of keeping Laurier to the outside of the ice and clearing away rebounds from in front of Ouroumis, who turned away all 18 of Laurier's shots in the period.

Laurier had a chance to tie the game late in the third period, but was unable to get it into the net past Ouroumis.

The Lancer defenders did a good job of preventing the Golden Hawks from getting any chances on the Windsor net as Windsor handed the Hawks their first regulation loss of the season and grabbed a 1-0 series lead.

The Lancers will host game two of the best of three series on Saturday afternoon at South Windsor Arena. Puck is set to drop at 4:10pm.
