Box Score 2 The Windsor Lancers men's hockey team split a pair of road games over the weekend.
The Lancers extended their winning streak to three games with a 3-1 decision over the Brock Badgers on Friday evening, before falling to the Laurier Golden Hawks 2-1 on Saturday in Waterloo.
The split keeps Windsor (15-7-0) two points ahead of the Guelph Gryphons and Lakehead Thunderwolves and in second place in the OUA West division.
On Friday against Brock, the home side opened the scoring with 1:06 left in the first period, as Sean Jones found the goal past
Parker Van Buskirk. Near the beginning of the second, Windsor evened the contest on a goal by D.J Turner. Jadran Belijo and
Kenny Bradford picked up assists on the tying marker.
The score would remain tied until the late minutes of the final frame. With 2:45 remaining in regulation,
Matt Beaudoin picked up the game-winning goal on assists from
Spencer Pommells and
Steve Ferry.
Two minutes later,
Derek Lanoue added an insurance marker with the empty netter to give the Lancers their 15th win of the season, maintaining their second-place standing in the OUA West division.
Van Buskirk notched his 11th win of the season between the pipes, picking up 25 saves in the victory.
On Saturday, Van Buskirk had another solid game in net as he turned away 34 of Laurier's 36 shots.
Windsor got on the board first with a short handed marker by DJ Turner at 10:38 of the second period.
Jadran Beljo and
Steve Ferry were credited with the assists.
The hosts tied it up at one with just eleven seconds remaining in the period with a power play goal by Derek Holden.
In the third. the Lancers pressured the Laurier defense and out shot the Golden Hawks 16-9 but were unable to get one past goaltender Ryan Daniels.
After a number of incredible saves by Van Buskirk, Laurier broke the barrier and pulled ahead as Joseph Vanni scored his second of the year at 11:02 of the period.
Windsor will return home next weekend when they host the Lakehead Thunderwolves in a pair of games at Windsor Arena. The puck drops at 7:30pm both Friday and Saturday night.
