Box Score The Lancer men's hockey team got back in the win column Saturday night with a convincing 6-3 win over the visiting Lakehead Thunderwolves in game two of a weekend doubleheader.
The win moves Windsor back into second place in the OUA West division, one point ahead of the Guelph Gryphons.
Lakehead's Trevor Gamache opened the scoring just over two minutes into the game with a shot that beat Windsor goalie
Parker Van Buskirk while the Wolves were on the power play.
The Lancers replied with a power play goal of their own just past the midway point of the first period when Christian Steingragber beat Lakehead starting netminder Jeff Bosch.
Matt Beaudoin then added his own marker at 15:06 put Windsor ahead 2-1.
Fifteen seconds later Wolves' forward Victor Anilane quickly tied the game at 2-2. However, Lancer captain
Brett Vandehogen put the Lancers back in front 3-2 at 16:53 to round out the scoring in the opening period.
Windsor started out fast in the middle stanza when
Derek Lanoue notched his second marker of the season just 53 seconds into the period to give the Lancers a two-goal advantage. With the Lancers scoring four goals in just over 20 minutes, Lakehead called time-out at and Bosch was replaced by Alex Dupuis in the Wolves' net.
Lakehead's Jake Carrick cut the Lancers' lead to 4-3 at 8:43, but a minute later former Thunderwolf
Jadran Beljo rifled one past Dupuis to make the score 5-3 for Windsor heading into the third period. Shots on goal in the second favored Lakehead by a 14-12 margin.
Steve Ferry added an insurance marker at 8:59 of the final frame, which rounded out the scoring to give Windsor the 6-3 victory. The rest of the game was marred by a lengthy delay after a slew of penalties were handed out when things turned chippy with just over eight minutes left in the contest.
The Lancers will host the first place Western Mustangs on Rivalry Night Friday February 1st in their final home game of the regular season. Prior to the game, the Lancers will honour their graduating seniors in a pre-game presentation.
The game is also Hats on for Healthcare night, and fans are encouraged to wear fun and entertaining hats to support the cause.
The puck is scheduled to drop at 7:30pm.
