The Lancer women's hockey team lost 5-2 to the Guelph Gryphons on Saturday night at the Gryphons Centre in Guelph.
Heading into next weekend's home contest against the Queen's Gaels, Windsor now holds a 5-5-1 record and sits in seventh place in the OUA.
The Gryphons dominated the game, keeping possession of the puck for the majority of the first period, putting ample pressure on the Lancer defence, and scoring four unanswered goals before the Lancers were able to retaliate.
Windsor upped the intensity in the second period, and was able to battle back with
Andrea Benac scoring the first Lancer goal of the game from just outside the crease to make it 4-1, with
Sloan Kudrinko, and
Bree Polci on the assists.
Guelph would add their final goal of the game before the second period was out.
The third period started with back and forth action, both teams battling to set up shooting opportunities and getting boxed out by the opposing defence. A Lancer power play after a Guelph tripping penalty allowed
Kayla Dodson to score from the crease, with
Adalena Tridico and
Jenny MacKnight on the assists.
Although the Lancers were aggressive in the third period, they were not able to overtake the Gryphons and dropped the 5-2 decision.
The Lancers will take to the ice next Saturday afternoon when they host the Queen's Gaels at 4:00pm at South Windsor Arena.
