Men's Hockey dominates Western in London

Box Score A pair of two-goal nights from Drew Palmer and Kenny Bradford gave Windsor the edge Friday night as the Lancers controlled the play on their way to a 5-1 victory over the Western Mustangs Friday night at Thompson Arena.

Captain Drew Palmer and Kenny Bradford each had two goals, while Isak Quakenbush scored an empty netter late in the third, and Parker Van Buskirk was solid in net to secure the win for the Lancers.

Windsor is 10-4 on the season heading into Saturday night's contest against the Brock Badgers in St. Catharine's, ON.

Both of Palmer's goals came in the first period as Windsor held a two goal lead heading into the first intermission. Palmer put Windsor on the board at 7:18 before adding his second with just 15 seconds left in the frame.

Early in the second the Lancers took a hooking penalty as the momentum swung Western's way. However, thanks to a shorthanded 3-1 and a bounce off a stick, Bradford scored his sixth of the year 1:14 into the infraction.

Even though the Lancers were able to score shorthanded, Mustangs also capitalized on Windsor's penalty, getting a goal from Matt Marantz five seconds before Windsor was set to return to full-strength.

Bradford then killed any Mustangs momentum five minutes later, notching his second of the night to give the Lancers a 4-1 advantage and forcing the Mustangs to make a switch in net.

The third period was a tight contest as Greg Dodds turned away eight Lancers shots in the final frame. Van Buskirk was equally as strong, not allowing the Mustangs to get any legitimate scoring opportunities.

After the Lancers took a penalty with 3:02 remaining, Western pulled Dodds and Windsor subsequently took advantage, as Quakenbush scored an empty-netter with four seconds left to make it 5-1.

The Lancers will hit the ice tomorrow night in St. Catharine's as they face the Brock Badgers at 7:15pm.

Windsor and Western will face off one final time before the Christmas break when they play in the Hockeytown Winter Festival on Monday December 16th at Comerica Park in Detroit, MI.

Tickets for the game are $15 and can be purchased in the department of athletics or at the gate the evening of the event.
