Lancer comeback falls just short against Blues

MacAulay MacDonnell scored a goal in a 4-3 loss toToronto on Sunday.
Box Score TORONTO- The Windsor Lancers men's hockey team battled back from a two-goal deficit with a pair of third-period goals, but came up just short as the Toronto Varsity Blues added a marker midway through the final period to take the Sunday matinee 4-3 and hand Windsor its fourth-straight conference loss.

The Lancers (11-8-0) drop to fifth in the OUA West division coming out of the weekend, while the Blues (11-7-2) climb two points ahead of Windsor into fourth, although the latter holds a game in-hand.

In the lone match on the OUA men's hockey schedule Sunday, the home team jumped out to a couple of two-goal leads, both in the second period. MacAulay MacDonnell made it a one goal game with his eighth of the year to get the Lancers on the board in the middle frame.

Saverio Posa then scored for the second time in as many games for the Lancers on the power-play early in the third. After Mike Christou evened the contest at 3-3 with his first goal of the year, the Blues re-gained the lead at the 10:21 mark of the final stanza.

Taylor Speed stopped 20 of 24 shots in net for the Lancers, and Brett Willows responded with 24 saves on 27 shots for Toronto. Windsor went 1-of-10 on special teams, while the Blues were 0-for-4.

Windsor will look to get back in the win column next weekend at South Windsor Arena where they will host Laurier and Waterloo on Friday and Saturday respectively. Both games take place at 7:30 p.m.
