WINDSOR, Ont.- The Windsor Lancers women's hockey team rebounded from a Friday night loss against Toronto to record a dominant 5-0 victory over the Ryerson Rams on Saturday at South Windsor Arena.
Windsor (12-8-1) improves to 5-1-0 in the New Year with the victory, which was sparked by an offensive breakthrough in the second period after the Lancers could not find the goal despite outshooting the visitors 13-3 in the opening frame. Not so in the middle stanza, as
Candice Chevalier tallied her 10th goal of the season at the 6:17 mark on the power-play. From there the floodgates opened as Windsor's offensive leaders made their presence known.
Bree Polci grabbed her 12th of the year before
Jenny MacKnight scored her first of two goals in the contest. Lindsay Hoogstratten sandwiched her goal in between MacKnight's pair. Polci added two helpers, and MacKnight also picked up one assist, as both players led all skaters with three points each.
MacKnight continues to sit atop the OUA, as the veteran forward now has 36 points in 21 games played. Polci is fifth in conference scoring, having tallied 29 points thus far this season.
Ingrid Sandven was not especially busy in between the pipes for Windsor, as she stopped all 10 shots she faced on the evening to earn her first career OUA shutout. Emma Crawley stopped 30 of 35 shots in a losing cause for the Rams. Windsor was 3-for-8 on the power-play, while Ryerson was 0-for-7.
The Lancers travel to London, Ont. tomorrow afternoon to play the Western Mustangs. Sunday's match-up is a make-up contest after last weekend's scheduled game had to be postponed due to inclement weather.
Windsor wraps up the regular season next weekend at South Windsor Arena where they will host Laurier and Waterloo on Friday and Saturday respectively. Both games will be available at
