At the start, the physicality between the teams began early as Laurier looked for a win and Windsor wanted to continue with their streak.
Nolan Gardiner found the net early making a shorthanded goal 3 minutes into the game, yet Christian Propp was fresh and solid to take on the Lancers. Later on
Brady Hinz takes a shot that gets lots of Lancer bodies in front of the net with the rebound, however Propp holds his ground. As the game opened up, Gardiner was able to convert and find a space behind the net and at the end of the 20 minutes. Windsor led 1-0 at the intermission.

On a breakaway, Laurier tested Torchia but the second-year goaltender made a fantastic save letting the Hawks know that he wasn't allowing much action past him. During a powerplay, and after four shot attempts, Adrian Nabuurs finally got one in the books for the Golden Hawks to tie up the game. But just as Laurier thinks they found their edge, Holmes responded back for the Lancers to steal back the lead. A goal by
Anthony Stefano helped the blue and gold establish a 3-1 lead at second intermission.
