Lancers Claim 19 Medals at Can Am Classic

Overall, the blue and gold took home 19 medals, including six gold, eight silver, and five bronze. Four Lancers hit auto qualifying standard for the U SPORTS national championships, and a new placement was made in the Lancer all-time top ten. 

FULL RESULTS 

A.J. Stanat picked up right where he left off in last year's OUA Championships, picking up gold in the shot-put Friday evening with a toss of 16.29m. He followed that up Saturday morning by reaching top of the podium once again with 16.58m in the weight throw. 

Remaining in the field events, Owen MacNeill got to the top of the podium with 15.14m in the triple jump, which also auto qualified him for the U SPORTS track & field championships right here in Windsor.  

Also auto qualifying for U SPORTS was Ben Tilson, who took home gold in the 600m with a time of 1:19.49. Rounding out the gold medals was Mandy Brunet with 12.05m in the triple jump, and Jacob Fitzpatrick in the mile with a time of 4:13.13. 

Caleb Keeling was a part of the four U Sports auto qualifiers for the Lancers this past weekend, taking home silver in the high jump with 2.08m. Other field athletes that nabbed second place were Jacqueline Turner with 12.12 in the shot put, and Mikayla May with 12.01m in the triple jump. 

Multiple relay teams managed to take silver this past weekend. The women's 4x400m (Nadia Pupatello, Maya Metivier, Lara Watchorn, Kaitlyn Handy) came through with a time of 4:02.59, while on the men's side the 4x200m (Jack Banfield, Ryan Holly, Cameron John-Dunslow, Joel Breedveld) and the 4x400m (Ryan Holly, Ben Tilson, Noah Waldmann, Kai Luong) made podium with times of 1:30.47 and 3:21.89 respectively. 

In the distance, Luke Mawhinney won silver in the mile with a time of 4:17.70, while Isabella Goevia also took silver in the 1000m, running a 2:52.31. 

Goevia was also a part of the women's 4x800m relay that took home bronze, running 9:15.64 alongside Layla Masse, Ella Heredi and Joelle Olla

Grace Elford not only took home bronze in the pole vault with a jump of 4.05m, but she also auto qualified for the U Sports championships, and moved into the #2 spot of the Lancers All-Time Top Ten. Also capturing bronze was Riley Robitaille with 5.72m in the long jump, Christopher Coady with 13.68m in the shot put, and Myles Cagan, with 6.92 in the 60m dash. 

UP NEXT 

The Lancers split up next weekend on the road, as some athletes compete in the Indiana Invitational in Bloomfield, Indiana, while others head up the Toronto to compete in the Fred Foot Classic and to Michigan for the Grand Valley State Invitational.
