The University of Windsor Lancers track and field team hosted the Lancer Team Challenge meet on Feb. 6-7 at the Dennis Fairall Fieldhouse, taking home the top spots in the overall team standings. The Lancer women placed first with 87 points and the men had 78 points en route to their team victories.
WOMEN'S RESULTS
The 4x800m team of
Natalie Fortier,
Ella Heredi,
Joelle Olla, and
Isabella Goveia stole the show on Friday night with a 8:52.06 time that smashed the previous meet record by 15 seconds and earned the quartet a spot at U SPORTS.
Samara Quanz won the 3000m with a time of 9:33.16, and
Jordana Badley-Castello won weight throw and improved upon her U SPORTS-qualifying mark from the Blue and Gold Meet with a toss of 19.03m.
In the pentathlon,
Anna Ropp placed second, highlighted by a 5.24m long jump for second and a 11.06m shot put for third.
Cali Benner earned a third-place finish, in part to her leap of 5.25m to win long jump.
Grace Elford's U SPORTS-bound season continued with a second-place finish in pole vault, as she cleared 4.00m. In the field on Saturday,
Mikayla May (5.78m) placed second in long jump and
Chloe VidAmour (11.97m) finished second in triple jump.
Cali Marles,
Maya Metivier,
Nadia Pupatello, and
Madalynn McGregor finished third in the 4x200m with a 1:42.44 time.
Fortier continued her strong weekend with a second-place showing in the 1000m on Saturday with a 2:51.74 mark. Heredi won the 600m in 1:32.95.
Ella Koller (8.80s) and
Riley Robitaille (8.89s) placed fourth and fifth in the 60m hurdles. Pupatello's fourth-place finish in the 300m came in at 40.18s. Olla made the podium in the 1500m with a third-place finish in 4:29.05 and Quanz placed fourth in 4:31.54.
The women's relay teams continued to show out on Saturday, as Pupatello, McGregor,
Kelis Daye, and Goveia won the 4x400m in 3:51.77 to set another meet record and clinch a berth at U SPORTS.
Tessanne Samuels, Heredi,
Danielle Heard, and Robitaille finished second in 4:00.98.
MEN'S RESULTS
Tristen Miscia won the heptathlon to auto-qualify for U SPORTS, and his performance included first-place finishes and Team Challenge meet records in long jump (6.76m) and shot put (13.44m) and first place in pole vault (4.50m).
Rhys Sharman placed second in shot put at 13.38m to set a meet record, and
Aidan Molenhuis won high jump at 1.87m. Molenhuis (2:47. 98), Miscia (2:48.34), and Sharman (2:50.23) all broke the previous meet record in the 1000m as they finished second, third, and fourth, respectively.
Noah Costa,
Kai Luong,
Abdullahi Abdullahi, and Noah Waldman met the U SPORTS auto-qualifying mark with a 7:36.11 time in the 4x800m and winning the event in the process. The relay group of Holly, John-Dunslow,
Mohamad Alkaaby, and
Will Duncan won the 4x400m with a 3:20.62 time. The 4x200m squad of
Cameron John-Dunslow,
Ryan Holly,
Brett Beazley, and
Anthony Isaac placed second with a 1:29.49 mark.
Costa won the 1000m on Saturday with a 2:25.20 time, and Abdullahi (2:26.05) placed third. Waldmann placed third in the 600m, crossing the finish line in 1:20.15, followed by Luong in fifth at 1:21.25. Holly's 34.85s time in the 300m earned him fourth place.
Andreas Pardalis (3:58.32) earned third place in the 1500m and
Adam Kleinsmith (3:58.58) fourth.
AJ Stanat auto-qualified for U SPORTS in his second event, this time meeting the standard in weight throw with a 17.59m heave that earned him a second-place finish.
Zach Clarke came close behind in third at 17.00m. Saturday's field events saw Stanat set a meet record with an 18.32m mark in shot put as he continues to prepare for U SPORTS after qualifying earlier in the season.
