Box Score Led by
Candace Rapchak's four point performance, the Lancer women's hockey team earned their second straight victory with a 4-3 shootout win over the UOIT Ridgebacks on Sunday afternoon at South Windsor Arena.
Coming off a 5-3 thriller over Queen's on Saturday, the Lancers were raring to go against the 5-12 Ridgebacks.
However, after a scoreless first period, the Lancers came out flat in the second period allowing three UOIT goals to fall behind 3-1 heading into the final period. First year forward Candace Chevalier scored the Lancers lone goal of the period on the power play five minutes into the period.
A talk from Lancer head coach
Jim Hunter revitalized the Lancers as they came stronger and with more confidence.
A UOIT penalty late in the period set Windsor up perfectly to tie the game.
Kayla Dodson, another first year Lancers, did not disappoint as she popped the puck past UOIT goaltender Emma Thompson to tie the game and send it into extra time.
Still tied after the overtime period, the game went into extra shooters after the first round of shooters solved nothing.
With three points already on the night, Rapchak continued to dominate the score sheet sending the puck top shelf to lift the Lancers over the Ridgebacks.
Solid in net throughout the shootout,
Jamie Tessier made 19 saves to earn the win. Thompson made an outstanding 47 saves in net for the Ridgebacks.
The ladies are back in action on Saturday January 29th when they play host to the Toronto Varsity Blues at 4:10pm at South Windsor Arena.
