Women's Hockey defeats Laurentian & Nipissing

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 The Lancer women's hockey team move to 4-0-1 on the season after a pair of road victories this past weekend.

Windsor earned a hard fought 3-2 victory over the Laurentian Voyageurs in a shootout on Saturday afternoon, and followed that up with a 3-1 victory over the Nipissing Lakers on Sunday evening.

After a scoreless first period on Saturday, Laurentian's Amanda Pereira gave the host school a 1-0 when she beat Lancer goaltender Marissa Kozovski at 12:50 of the period. As the lone goal of the period, the Voyageurs held a one goal lead heading into the final period.

Windsor's Erinn Noseworthy lite up the lamp twice in the front half of the final period to give Windsor a one goal lead. Noseworthy tied the game two and a half minutes into the final period off a pass from Jenny MacKnight. MacKnight and Bree Polci then set up Noseworthy again on the power play to put the Lancers up by one.

Less than a minute later, the Lancers were in serving time in the penalty box and Laurentian took advantage of the extra man as Julie Hebert tied the game.

Neither team was able to score for the remainder of regulation or in the overtime sending the match into a shootout.

Rookie Krystin Lawrence and MacKnight each scored in the shootout, while Kozovski turned away two of the three shots to lift the Blue & Gold over the Voyageurs. Kozovski finished the game with 31 saves.

Once again Sunday, the game started with a scoreless first period. In the second, Windsor got on the board first when Lawrence went in all alone and snipped one past Sabrina Picard with less than 13 minutes remaining in the frame.

Both teams had a number of strong chances throughout the remainder of the period but both goaltenders came up big to keep Windsor up by one.

Jenny MacKnight then notched her first of the season to put the Lancers up by two before Nipissing cut the Windsor lead in half with 4:33 remaining in the second.

Less than a minute later, Windsor's Shailyn Waites rebuilt Windsor lead to two goals and closed out the games scoring to give Windsor a 3-1 win.

Kozovski had another great showing in net finishing the game with 28 saves.

The Lancers will now travel to Waterloo for a pair of games against the Waterloo Warriors and Laurier Golden Hawks next weekend.
