The nationally ranked Lancer track & field team hosted the 40th Can Am Classic this weekend in the Dennis Fairall Fieldhouse.

The meet saw a number of athletes hit qualifying standard for the national championships, and a new Canadian record set.

Canadian Olympian and Lancer alumna Sarah Mitton competed in the women's shot put on Friday night, winning the event and setting a new Canadian record in the process, with an impressive throw of 19.80m.

On the U SPORTS side of the competition, the Lancer women dominated the women's 1500m with three Lancers placing in the top four in the event.
Nicole LaRue placed second overall in a time of 4:45.64,
Lauren Perkins was third at 4:48.29, and
Samara Quanz placed fourth at 4:48.48. In the women's 600m, Isaella Goveia was third in the event in a time of 1:36.89.

The Lancer women's relay teams also had impressive showings over the weekend. The team of
Taryn Lamorie,
Brittany Van Hooft,
Emma Floris, and
Maya Metivier placed second in the women's 4x200m, while Metivier, Goveia, Floris, and Van Hooft teamed up in the 4x400m to place third. Windsor also landed second overall in the 4x800m with the team of Gamryn Williams, Goveia,
Natalie Whitten, and LaRue.

In field events,
Mandy Brunet hit U SPORTS standard in the women's triple jump with a distance of 12.33m. The leap moves her into the #5 spot on the Lancer all-time top ten list in the event, and is currently the top jump in the event in U SPORTS. In long jump,
Emma Kljajic was second overall at 5.44m, while Lamorie was third with a jump of 5.41m.

On the men's side of the competition, the blue and gold shone in the weight throw to kick off day two of the competition.
Anthony Atkinson threw 15.78m to place first,
Zion Webb was third with a toss of 14.10m, and
A.J. Stanat was fifth at 13.48m. Webb also placed second in the shot put with a U SPORTS qualifying throw of 15.63m, and
Akos Balint was third in the triple jump at 13.22m.

On the track,
Jonathan Rioux claimed silver in the 1500m with a time of 3:58. 36, and
Ben Tilson brough home bronze in the 300m with a time of 35.46.

The 4x400m relay team of
Leewinchell Jean, Tilson, Will McBride, and
Noah Waldmann was second overall with a time of 3:21.90, and the 4x800m team of Waldmann, McBride,
Andrew Taylor and
Paul Popescu also placed second with a time of 7:46.31.

The Lancers will now split up and head to the YSU Collegiate Invitational in Youngstown, Ohio and the Mike Lints Alumni Meet in Grand Valley, Michigan next weekend.
