Hamlin adds to 2023-24 recruiting class

Lancer men's hockey head coach Kevin Hamlin is pleased to announce the next wave of recruits for the 2022-23 season.

Lacing up their skates for the blue & gold this fall are local standout Johnny Ulicny, transfer Ryan Roth, forwards Ty Toews, Dominic Muffreh and Aaron Chiarot, and defenceman Dylan Schives.

A Windsor native, Ulicny is a former Windsor Spitfire draft pick who played the last two seasons in the NAHL for the Johnston Tomahawks. This past season, he registered 39 points (12 goals, 27 assists) and 97 penalty minutes in 59 games played. According to coach Hamlin, the future business student's "speed and drive will make him a great addition to our team."

No stranger to U SPORTS, Roth joins the blue and gold from the University of New Brunswick. A native from Ladou, Missouri, Roth also played three years in the Ontario Hockey League, culminating 135 total points. As a transfer student who will study business, Roth adds maturity and tremendous skill to a young forward class. "We are very pleased to add Ryan to our roster," said Hamlin. "I'm looking forward to seeing him in game action.  After practicing with us for an entire year, I know he will make an impact with our team."

After four standout seasons with the Grande Prairie Storm of the AJHL, Toews is an excellent player who gets to pucks first and is able to make plays. The Grande Prairie native will utilize his size in our building and will be an excellent addition to a highly skilled forward class. "Ty's character and skill combined makes him a natural fit for our Lancer culture," said Hamlin. "We are extremely pleased to add someone who already plays and acts like a Lancer."

Dominic Mufarreh, a native of Livonia, MI, is a highly skilled winger who played two seasons in the OHL with the Soo Greyhounds.  He joined the Caladonia Corvairs and played a key role in their deep run in the Sutherland Cup playoffs during the 2022-23 season, registering 19 points in 16 games played.

Also joining the Lancers from the GOJHL, Chiarot led his hometown Hamilton Kilty B's to a conference championship and an appearance in the Southerland Cup round robin. "Aaron is a tremendous fit for us and will make opponents move pucks quicker than they like," commented Hamlin. "His physical play will be a great addition and he is expected to develop into a physical force in our league. As a two-way player, he will spend time up front and behind the blue line."

Rounding out the recruits is Dylan Shives played 128 games in the QMJHL prior to playing a season in the BCHL with the Prince George Spruce Kings and a season with the SAIT Trojans of the CCAA. "Dylan is an excellent defenseman who will make us a tougher team to play against."
